Buddhist Prayer Bracelet
Exclusive to the British Museum, a silver bangle inscribed with a Buddhist Metta Prayer.
The Pali word metta means ‘loving kindness’; an unconditional love and empathy that encompasses all living things. Metta Bhavana is a meditation which encourages us to give metta to ourselves, so that we may be better able to bestow it upon others.
The shape of the bracelet is known as a Möbius Strip, after the German mathematician August Ferdinand Möbius (1790-1868). It represents the seeming paradox of a plane with no end, and as such has become accepted as the symbol for infinity.
A beautiful gift which reminds us of our duties to ourselves and others.
The inscribed text reads:
May all beings be peaceful.
May all beings be happy.
May all beings be safe.
May all beings awaken to the light of their true nature.
May all beings be free.
